| OVERVIEW OF PUNE
Pune has an enchanting history of more than 1000 years. It is the second largest city in Maharashtra, after Mumbai. Pune is known by various sobriquets – cultural capital of Maharashtra, Oxford of the East, Queen of the Deccan, Detroit of India, etc. Pune is a vibrant city with rich cultural past, a scintillating present and a promising future.
Geography
Pune is situated at a height of 560 m above sea level, with an area of about 400 sq. km. According to the latest census, the population of the city is more than 4 million.
Nestled in the Sahyadri hills, Pune has a healthy climate. It is easily accessible by air, rail and road. The nearest city is Mumbai, at a distance of 160 km by road.
Development
Pune is administered by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The PMC is now making every effort to develop the infrastructure of the city in it’s endevour to put it on the international map.
Pune offers excellent educational facilities - from reputed international schools to colleges, there is no dearth educational opportunities in the city. In fact, Pune is reputed to have the most number of students in India, if not Asia. It is the availability of such rich educational facilities has facilitated the transformation of the city from a sleepy hamlet to an international IT hub.

The inner parts of the city still retain the quintessential ‘Puneri’ culture, while the suburbs like Koregaon Park, Wagholi are truly cosmopolitan.
