ANNUAL REPORT 2009-10.

The year began with an enthusiastic celebration of the Green Day, where all the children brought plants and kept them in the school premises. They watered it with great excitement and are still taking good care of them. A talk was given on the importance of planting more trees and how each one has to contribute to conserve the environment.

As ‘Water’ was the theme of the month for July, a field trip was made to the Water Purification Plant. Children were shown the various stages through which water passes to get purified in order to reach the population of Pune.

They were also taken to the Gurudwara to develop the spiritual side of their personality. Jyotirmay being a secular school would undertake such visits in the future to different worship places of different religions.

Several talks and presentations were given prior to the Total Solar Eclipse, a rare phenomenon this year.

Two of our stars, Jenny and Adya Bharati , bagged the prizes at the Faber Castell Art Competition on an All India Level.

The Teacher’s Day Celebration was one of its kind, as the children presented a wonderful programme for the teachers, solely arranged by them. The teachers also enjoyed an amazing lunch further in the afternoon.

The spirit of ‘Navratri’ was clearly visible in the beats of Dandiya and the colourful shades of the attire the children wore.

Diwali was also celebrated with many activities such as the Flower Arrangement Competition, where our children put up a wonderful display and our tiny tots were all dressed up for the Fancy Dress Programme.

On the occasion of Children’s Day Celebration, all were taken to visit the Katraj zoo, where the children were very excited to see different species of animals and reptiles from a close distance.

The school also visited the Science Express Train, stationed at Khadki Railway station, which was also another wonderful experience as the children collected a lot of information on the upcoming discoveries and the amazing networking of the human body.

A talk and a presentation was made on the WORLD AIDS DAY, where children were given the general information about how AIDS is acquired and also their doubts were cleared about the various rumors regarding the spread of the disease. They were explained to empathize with the victims and how to help with a healthy attitude. The significance and the importance of the Red Ribbon was also given to them.

On the World Handicap Day, several activities were conducted where children were asked to carry out certain tasks with blindfolds and legs tied. This was to make them realize the difficulties that physically challenged people face in their day to day life.

Also the World Energy Day was celebrated with presentations on how to save energy resources. Students were introduced to the new forms of devices that consume less energy such as LED bulbs in place of Tungsten and induction cooker to reduce the consumption of LPG. The children also made various charts showing how to save energy

Another field trip was made to the Blind School, where we all became speechless at the amazing talents of the blind students. They showed us how to make designer chocolates and also gave us information about the Braille Library.

Christmas was celebrated with a Pantomime, where children enacted the birth of Christ followed by Carol Singing. There was also a Card Making Competition held on the same occasion. Santa distributing gifts to the students was the happiest moment of the Christmas event.

A bonfire was made on the occasion of ‘Lohri’. Children were also explained the significance of the festival. They were also informed about the custom of putting the grains into the fire. Also the significance of Makar Sankrat was told to them and how it is celebrated across the country with different names. Children enjoyed flying kites on the same occasion.

Republic day saw the children in a march past saluting, the national flag and singing the national anthem and national song with the feeling of patriotism and pride for the nation.

A visit to the tribal museum opened the eyes of the children to the life and culture of the tribes of Maharashtra.

National science day was celebrated with great gusto with the children participating in the quiz and debate competition.

The year 2009-10 came to a memorable end with the first annual day of Jyotirmay International School. It also marked the end of celebrations for the academic year. The students had put up remarkable performances exhibiting their hidden talent in music dance and drama.
